Getting started
How do we set up payments?
Jotterly uses Stripe to manage all payments. When you sign up, we walk you through connecting your Stripe account. If your group already has one, just connect it. If not, you can create one for free in a few minutes.
Once connected, money from ticket sales, shop sales and donations goes straight into your Stripe account. Jotterly takes its fee first, then Stripe handles the rest including card processing and paying out to your bank.
Do buyers need to sign up or download anything?
No. Buyers just need an email address and a card. No account, no app, no fuss. They get a confirmation email with their ticket attached as a QR code, ready to scan at the door.
Can more than one person run our Jotterly account?
Yes, as many as you like. Each person gets their own login and you can set different permission levels depending on what they need to do. Great for spreading the load across your group.
Someone has left our group. How do we sort access?
You can remove people and reassign admin access from your account settings. If the person who left was the only admin and you are now locked out, just get in touch and we will help you get back in.
Fees & payments
Can I use Jotterly for free?
Yes, forever. If all you want to do is list your upcoming events and have a public page for your community, Jotterly is completely free. You only pay anything when you start collecting money through the platform.
How much does Jotterly cost?
Nothing to get started. No monthly fees, no setup costs, no contracts. Jotterly only takes a small cut when you collect money. That is 2.5% on ticket and shop sales, and 1.5% on donations. Free events cost nothing at all.
On top of Jotterly's fee, Stripe charges a card processing fee. You can see exactly what that is on Stripe's pricing page.
What are the Stripe card processing fees?
Stripe charges a fee per order, not per ticket. So if someone buys three tickets in one go, the processing fee applies once to the whole order. Stripe's fees can change, so for the current rate check Stripe's pricing page.
Can buyers cover the fees so our group keeps the full amount?
Yes. At checkout, buyers can choose to add the fees on top of their order. When they do, your group gets the full face value. You decide whether to offer this option or cover the fees yourself.
When does the money arrive?
Money goes straight into your Stripe account as orders come in. Jotterly never holds your funds. Stripe manages when it gets paid out to your bank. See Stripe's payout documentation for the details.
How do refunds work?
You can issue full or partial refunds from your Jotterly dashboard at any time. The money goes back to the buyer's card. What happens to the card processing fee on a refund is up to Stripe. See Stripe's refund documentation for the details.
Events & ticketing
Can I have different ticket types or timeslots for the same event?
Yes. You can set up as many ticket types as you need, each with their own price and capacity. Timeslots let you split an event into separate times, each with their own tickets. Handy for things like school discos where younger and older children come at different times.
How does scanning tickets at the door work?
Each buyer gets a QR code in their confirmation email. On the night, anyone on your team can open Jotterly on their phone and scan codes as people arrive. It marks each ticket as used instantly and flags duplicates. No special equipment needed, just a phone.
Can I see how sales are going while tickets are live?
Yes. Your dashboard shows live ticket sales, revenue and how many people have checked in on the night. You can also break it down by ticket type or timeslot.
Community membership & volunteering
What is a community member?
Members are people who have signed up to support a specific community on Jotterly — a parent council, a sports club, a charity. Membership is free and gives them a way to keep an eye on upcoming events, volunteer to help and manage anything they have signed up for from one account.
Do supporters need to be members to buy a ticket or donate?
No. Anyone can buy a ticket or make a donation — they just need an email address and a card. Membership is only required for things like volunteering, where the community needs a stable way to reach out to the same person across events.
How does volunteering work?
You add the roles you need help with to an event, e.g. "stall-holder", "door supervisor". Members can browse roles on the public event page and offer to help. You confirm or decline each offer from your admin dashboard, and any confirmed volunteers get a confirmation email.
Can people give monthly instead of one-off?
Yes. Alongside one-off donations, supporters can set up a monthly recurring donation to your community or to a specific fundraiser. Recurring donations are handled by Stripe — your supporters can manage their own subscription from a secure link in their confirmation email.
Security & data
Is Jotterly secure?
Yes. Card payments go through Stripe which is fully PCI compliant. Jotterly never sees or stores card details. All data is encrypted and we operate in line with UK GDPR.
Who owns the data we collect through Jotterly?
Your group does. We do not sell it or share it with anyone. If you or one of your supporters needs a copy of their data, or wants it deleted, email us and we will handle it. We keep data in line with our Privacy Policy.
